The Padre was unexpectedly nice. high points included: REally cool Depression era architecture with high ceilings and other artisan based touches rooms were spacious, clean and reasonably well appointed; my bed was comfortable the front desk workers, one of whom was Brady, were pleasant, knowledgeable, efficient and helpful the food at farmacy cafe was quite good, particularly the coffee and the biscuits. when I return to bakersfield, I will stay there again.
Love the history of the building. Nice renovation, great service, excellent food and central location with easy highway access.

For a room over $400/night, I had much higher expectations. Staff was no help, actually rude when requests were made. You will get much better service at a chain hotel @ half the price. This property should be ashamed and embarrassed.
The Padre hotel is a very nice place to stay. Highly recommend. I would, however, caution that anyone booking should book directly with the hotel and not through one of the third party booking sites. expedia.com charged an extra $20 per night. Call the hotel directly and book directly.
Beautifully restored grand hotel. Room was clean and in good shape. Bed was comfortable. Service, particularly the front desk were helpful and kind. Outstanding hotel!
