The Chicago Hotel Collection Ambassador Gold Coast
The Ambassador Chicago, part of JdV by Hyatt, offers a 24-hour fitness center, complimentary Wi-Fi, and concierge services.
Wonderful hotel in a beautiful neighborhood. Very accommodating.
Needs Updating…
Used to love this hotel back when it first morphed years ago into the buzzy and sophisticated Public hotel. Elegant lobby, snazzy restaurant, luxe understated rooms. Then it became a subsidiary of Hyatt and was still “good” though maybe four star or three 1/2: still great bones and lovely rooms, very reasonable prices, but no more dining room and less services. Still it was worth it when I’d stay in Chicago for 6 nights. Now, however, it’s lost so much of that former luster I wont be returning ( although heard it’s just been sold, again). Room was nice, great sheets and they do offer breakfast buffet in that elegant dining room. But there’s not nearly enough staff, lines at the checkin desk for the lone employee, had to request additional hangers and bathroom amenities. Staff is nice, accommodating, but seemingly overwhelmed by the clients who now flock to this property in such a terrific location. There’s ugly signage advertising cheap drinks how about hiring a good graphic designer? and the overall feeling is that the owners have just cut it loose. Hopefully the new folks will realize what a gem this historic property was and can still be, it’s sad to see how it devolved, resurrected and devolved again. I’d like to remain loyal and can be lured back, will happily write a new glowing review. But at the moment the Ambassador feels like a youth hostel stuck in an Italian palazzo.
Loved the ambiance, atmosphere and cleanliness.

Expedia Group verifies all reviews to ensure that the customer has indeed booked on our site. To encourage customers to submit their reviews, we send an email containing a link to evaluate the hotel to which we sometimes attach a reduction or Expedia Rewards voucher to use on a future trip. We post all reviews whether they are positive or negative, to the extent that they respect our content directives. This monitoring is automated. Any rejection is manually checked and, if maintained, notified to the reviewer by email with reasons. We do not otherwise process changes, nor reviewer contact. We de-list reviews after 4 years, other than for properties having a non-significant number of reviews.
