Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Dover

Stayed for a week as I was in town for work (work remotely). Checking in was fast and we had our room within minutes. The room was clean and everything worked. The shower got hot and the water pressure was awesome. Plenty of storage space for clothes and the continental breakfast started on time and had more choices that I expected. A welcome surprise was the pancake maker, that was just the touch of a button to get hot pancakes made in less than a minute!
This is a low end facility. The general condition is exceptionally worn. Services expected had to be pulled out of the staff. Once done things went well the rest of the stay. The physical plant left a lot to be desired. This is an overused facility and needs more care than it’s gotten. Staff was friendly and was trying hard to make the best of the situation. Laundry facilities were in flux with broken units in place, taking up valuable space. Two each washers/dryers were connected but only one dryer was operational. The soap/softener dispenser was empty. Bedding was unacceptable but we had no choice with other facilities being fully booked. One bed sagged badly on one side where you could almost roll out of bed while sleeping. The dumpster was up against the back door and smelled of various unsavory things. Critters, (racoons?), were scavenging in the area. We survived but this is not a repeat with Microtel. If all Microtels are like this we’ll never utilize another one regardless of need. We’ll sleep in our vehicle if that’s the case. It’s cleaner, safer and probably more comfortable. It’s definitely cheaper. The cost of this three day stay was in line with more full service and newer locations, even within the Hilton world. Taking advantage of customers in this manner won’t fly long term either.
I felt safe. There is always staff on site. Staff was responsive.
Stayed four nights. Close to downtown Dover and near Spaulding Turnpike. Not a bad place for the price.
