DoubleTree by Hilton Gainesville
The DoubleTree by Hilton Gainesville offers a variety of amenities including a bar/lounge, parking, elevator, gym, pool, restaurant, WiFi/Internet, laundry, non-smoking rooms, breakfast, air conditioning, 24/7 front desk, business center, spa tub, meeting rooms, and beach access.
We booked last minute after long day of travel north from South Florida. Easy check in. Room was nice and clean. Staff was all nice. No complaints.
The property is in an excellent location and has an attractive exterior and lobby/dining area. Used the Hilton Honors app to check in online, choose my room and access my digital key. Elevator is noisy and shaky going up. The hardwood floor upon entering the guest room was sticky and the carpet was frayed along the edges and badly stained in several spots. The room had a musty smell, as if it had been "cleaned" with dirty supplies. Two of the lamps in the room were unplugged when we arrived. The bed sheets were stained and the ceiling had both open holes and huge plaster splotches that were barely painted over. The shower floor and walls were also stained badly and the edges of the shower were mildewed. The morning after arriving, I had an issue with my digital key and had to request a physical key from the front desk. Since we were planning to leave the room a little later in the day, we asked if housekeeping could hold off on servicing our room until after 12:00pm (this request was about 10:00 am). When we left the room around noon, there were at least four rooms being cleaned on our floor, including the one directly opposite us. However, when we returned seven hours later, our room had not been serviced. I called the front desk to request for some fresh towels and trash bags to be sent up and the young man who delivered them could barely hand them to me because he was carrying a drink and food bag. He also clearly smelled like smoke. Overall, the inconveniences were relatively minor since it was only a two night stay, but I won't come back to this hotel again.
